South-east Queensland residents are mopping up after a band of severe storms swept through the region. The dangerous cells produced golf ball-sized hail, torrential rain and cut the power to more than 25,000 properties. Residents in the Moreton Bay region, north of Brisbane, were the worst affected, with 101 millimetres of rain falling at Caboolture and Wamuran reporting 97 millimetres.

Winds of up to 100km/h were recorded with containers blowing over at the Sandstone Point Hotel. A boat also washed ashore on Bribie Island after breaking from its mooring.
